Data
Which plant, run by whom, and can it do the step
The production map answers which country. This answers which building. 27 facilities across the rare earth elements chain, each placed from a named public document, dated to that document rather than to the day it was loaded, and re-read on a schedule to confirm the document still names it.
41 commodities covered
The chain, step by step
Counted over the 18 points with current or ageing evidence. The 9 archival points are excluded, because a plant last documented in 2007 is not evidence of capacity today.

How current this is
A facility point ages from the date on its own source document, never from the date it was loaded. Within 18 months it is current, which is one annual reporting cycle plus the lag before the next one lands. From there to 48 months it is drawn faint and labelled with its vintage. Past that it is archival and held back from the map unless you ask for it, because it is evidence that a plant was running once, not that it is running now.

Operator and ownership on every point, the capacity figure and exactly what it counts, and one line per plant on what it can and cannot do — the constraint that a tonnage figure hides. The points, their locations, their step in the chain, their status and their citations stay free at every level, because a map nobody can check is worth nothing.

The gap this layer is closing, stated plainly: the only global facility dataset any government publishes openly was last compiled in 2011, from survey work done in 2007. That is why most commodities here have breadth without currency, and why the points drawn by default are so much fewer than the points held. Everything current is either a company’s own filing or a national survey read by hand. Named plants still missing — Lynas’s Kalgoorlie plant, Iluka’s Eneabba refinery, Solvay’s La Rochelle lines, the projects designated under the European Critical Raw Materials Act — are missing because no document this platform can both read and redistribute states their current operating status. An official designation is not a status, and a publisher that blocks server-side readers is not worked around.
